Dear Khaldoun:

I have to say that I was in shock when I learned of the ugly events between Aoun and Geagea. I was shocked, because I have always known Geagea as being a fair player in a very ugly war. Geagea never favored the enemy of our people. I have so many stories about Geagea's lack of enthusiasm when dealing with outsiders, but I won't go into them here. The Eastern areas boomed and knew prosperity and peace during the brief reign under Geagea. Let me remind you that when Geagea took charge of the LF, he was the one who closed the LF offices in Israel. We know he wasn't the man who opened that office. Geagea was the man who continued Bashir Gemayel's path and turned the LF from a rag-tag militia, to an alternative to the non-existant government. At the time, our country was badly divided, and he did what he had to do. I am not saying that the situation was perfect, but we all knew that Geagea would never have tolerated bad behaviour on the part of his militia if he had more control. Geagea was not Hobeika, whom everyone was terrified of. Geagea was loved, or at the very least respected. Khaldoun, I am speaking from my own experiences. I understand that you may have reservations on the subject of Geagea, but even if you disagree with his ideology you shouldn't disagree with yours. His imprisonment was an act of political vengeance. I have no doubts about that. Please remember, two wrongs don't make a right. If Geagea's rights are abused, what makes you think that yours won't be one day.

Curious Lubnani.
