To the so-called "ultra orthodox Maronite". I assume from reading your opinion that you are a classical right-wing phalangist, who likes to shift political debates on ideological differences with the ssnp into a great "religious" war between the Maronites and the Greek Orthodox. Well, your traditional and archaic methods perfected by the traditional phalangists have proved their total bankruptcy during the civil war. Granted, the phalangists succeeded in polarizing the Lebanese state into a christian-muslim feud, when the root of the Lebanese problem is social injustice clothed in sectarianism, but the phalangists failed to achieve their objectives: a Lebanon modeled after Israel, an exclusivist sectarian state for the few and by the few. Also, your sectarian attacks on the Greek Orthodox members of the ssnp will not fly either. The ssnp and other nationalist parties: the communists and baath for example are multi-sectarian, which include Maronites, Greek Orthodox, Muslim, Druze, etc. They are united by their belief in their parties' political ideology not their religious sectarianism. As a classical phalangist you seem to be obsessed with the loss of Maronite priviliges in Lebanon. Well, Lebanon is for all Lebanese regardless of sectarian orientation. Perhaps, you need to review the changes that the phalangist party have instituted under the late George Saadeh: openness towards the rest of Lebanon, improved relations with Syria, and the acceptance of Lebanon's Arab heritage. The days of sectarian priviliges and exclusivism have been buried in Lebanon. Isn't it time for you to wake up and smell the coffee?
