I am a new participant at this forum. Through reviewing some of the commentary on the burning issues affecting us all, I want to thank the webmaster and the ssnp for having a democratic forum that allows the Lebanese to discuss their ideas freely in a civilized and respectable way. I am a Lebanese nationalist who believes in a secular democratic Lebanon; I am not affiliated with any political party, but I strongly support the political agenda of the Lebanese National Movement led by the late Kamal Jummblatt in the seventies. Unfortunately, political party activism is going through a crisis in Lebanon. There does not seem to be an articulation of a political vision for the country that would lead us to a secular democracy in the near future. I would like to know your opinion on the crisis of political activism. What's to be done about it? This crisis came to the fore with the end of the civil war, and the emergence of a political class determined to incorporate Lebanon into the global economy via privatization, at a time when the fundamental issues that led to the civil war have not been resolved yet: social justice, equal access to health and education, and most of all, the question of political sectarianism. The Taef Accord calls for a committee to eliminate political sectarianism. Where is the committee? Where is national reconciliation? I look forward to your feedback. Thank you again.
